The Spiritual Significance of Fractals
The ordinary mind of a human dividual is ignorant of its magically morphing matrix in the fecund form of a Mandala made by a Mandelbrot set—comprising the subject as well as its surrounding environs. The without is the within.
A personal consciousness is a pure mathematical structure convertible into volition, language, feeling, sensing, fantasy, and reason. The imaginary level of the perceiving/projecting mind is embedded in the fractal realm of sensorial extension the ego thinks of as nature and reality itself. This mentalized and mathematically organized world and its affective qualities are self-similar at every measurable magnitude in all dimensions of dissemination.
Within the Whole Mind (the Godhead) is a far more vast and in fact boundless fractal pattern of worlds within worlds, within each of which is yet another infinite Mandelbrot set of fractals of the One Mind—inhabited by an endless multiplicity of ego entities—each appearing as a being attempting to control its umwelt.
The ego is ignorant of the truth that it is nothing more than a short-lived algorithmic complex of alternating yin and yang agitations of the morphic field, an infinitesimal microcosmic holographic image of the Whole Self, occurring within an infinite fabric of similar yet different mirror images at cascading nested levels of internal virtual subtlety and external gross immanence.
Yet, the little ego mind is likewise a Mandelbrot set, and so is both infinitesimal and infinite. Under the influence of such psychoactive (al)chemical structures as DMT and psilocybin, the fractal formations of sublime higher consciousness as well as ghastly phantasms of the diabolic may emerge as visual phenomena and sometimes congeal into sensorially perceivable possessing vampiric or angelic spirits, at other times as majestic metaphysical cathedrals, but the visual and symbolic wonders tend to fade quickly once the chemical effect wears off. Any alien fractal forms that have become semi-materialized and attached to the ego, however, tend to remain—until exorcised.
The most heroic voyagers are those who can sustain the highest frequency of the Whole Mind, the empty Presence emitting and adoring every fluctuation of the ever-unfolding archetypal wave pattern revealing the Mysterium Tremendum. The vision of God as ultimate equation, genius of geometry, master musician, playwright of the perfect plot, mad scientist, conspirator of conquest, weaponized technologies, holocausts and hell realms and sudden reappearances of righteous renaissance, heavenly kingdoms, avatars, and always I am That, artist and artwork of sacred blasphemies and portals into paradises more astonishingly beatific than imagination could prefigure. Sprouting as mere mortals, we develop on a spectrum of graduating greatness, blossoming beyond the conceptions of philosophers and theologians to evolve into ethereal sages of stunning plasmic power and overworldly wisdom.
The ego as an infinitesimal model or wholon of the infinite Whole, which unfolds as an infinity of infinities, can transcend its limited identity through dialectical negation and noetic self-nullification, and reach a resonance frequency that is analogous to, and congruent with, the omnicentric Whole into which its Soul consciousness will then incorporate. The forever expanding free intelligence will at first remember itself as a Soul, a divine spark, a ray from the Central Sun, then a pillar of supreme luminosity, which, at a critical level of information retention and interconnection, will awaken to its infinite and eternal Presence and plenipotentiary powers.
The Soul will bring to light its authentic inmost Diamond Mind and alchemically redream the Buddhafield in which it plays. The inherent love of the Source, the Bestower of all blessings, magnetizes and mesmerizes the mindfield until a wondrous wormhole opens to the royal realm of the Supreme Real. One is anointed with nirvanic responsibility for the sustenance and completion of our exhaustive and exhausting creativity. There is a time to die, to withdraw again into the Zero Point.
The ego that sees the face of God implodes, while the Soul’s Intelligence explodes in a starburst of sagacity, fusing objective and subjective, dissolving into all-pervading nothingness, traversing the event horizon of space and time.
The M-set is both the Zero Point and the all-encompassing Totality—and likewise bears the infinite multiplicity of phenomena comprising every world, and spreading through the infinite emergent ecosystems contained in every branch of the fractal Tree of Life, each of which in turn is contained in an infinity of ever larger cosmic systems, and all are finally expressed as the Single Consciousness.
Nothing actually ever happens. Only the ever-shifting vibrational frequency of the unified field dances the Tandava—in fact, the superposed duality of Rudra and Ananda Tandavas. This superposition creates the effect of a pulse, a beat, a rhythm, which the Shaivite sages called the Spanda.
But the Spanda, also known as the Sphurana, is not actually an energetic pulse at all, in the sense that no quantitative change in energy distribution happens. But the pulsing, the unfolding of infinite possibilities of taste, texture, sound, and coloration that collude as pravritti and nivritti waves in constant iteration and reiteration, within and among all seemingly definite shapes and shows of semblance, creates the sense, for that identified mental self-image, of an ongoing movement of time.
Each passing moment of apparent (Chronos) time is itself eternal (when seen from the Aion via the radial Kairos spectrum) and contains an infinity of different oscillating vibrational frequencies, which produce momentary collapses and de-collapses of qualium wave functions and their objective correlative quantum waves. The former manifest as thoughts, feelings, and sensations in an ego’s mind-body vehicle and the latter comprise the symptomatic anatomy of attitude and the inevitable course of karma.
The effect known as life-and-death is thus created, along with the continuous motion of particle-waves at the smallest object level, due to the duality of energy and matter that constitutes the quantum, and runs through to the largest perceivable slice of the cosmos. It is the same Alice at every size in Wonderland—and the same Lewis Carroll reflected in every one of its inhabitants.
The Planck length (of both time and space) is the extremely thin plane of inertia between the realm of imperience and that of experience. Anything smaller than that size remains in the hypersphere of dream, ideal, and archetype. Any object of greater dimensionality than 3 dimensions of space and one of time can only be found in the realm of pure thought, pure mathematics and metaphysics. What appears in the manifest world is a fractal of That.
Despite the predominant appearance of quantities and entities, in fact, it is the qualitative spectrum that creates the effect of quantity through the sensed intensity produced by quantum wave de-collapse as well as resistance produced by quantum wave collapse, that occurs in the consciousness of any point of awareness affected by a given vibrational wave.
This variable modulation is naturally perceived and finally theorized by an observing consciousness as the seven primary colors of the rainbow, or the tones of a musical octave, the curve of an expanding spiral, a Fibonacci series, a living process, and depending on the type of phenomenon being described, a Euclidean geometrical polygon or Platonic solid within a fractal geometrical pleroma.
Attunement to the evolving process produces a particular yet constantly changing appearance of reality, including a microcosmic version of the Self, in the form of the ego, functioning as a subtle overlaid image of an oscillating duality of conscious and subconscious phantasies, separated by a censoring plane of inertia. This can only be consistently perceived when no longer identified with by a sleeping Soul.
The ego mind is in a constant state of alternating collapse and de-collapse, causing it to perceive projected objects rather than its own projecting of strings of information/awareness.
The alert Soul senses the constant flow of differences within an empty sameness, until it more accurately conceives of its own nature as a simplex microcosm of the All and the Zero Point in trans-patternable paradoxical superposition.
What the Soul perceives is the fractal nature of all appearance, meaning that everything manifests as a duality—left and right, up and down, in and out, yes and no, good and bad, hot and cold—in fact, an infinity of possible dualities, including finite and infinite, zero and one, and of course, matter and antimatter. But these dualities are all ultimately recognized as false, in the sense that they break down into smaller fractal components and merge into larger ones. This creates a constant halo of vagueness and ambiguity along with all discrete perceptions within the stream of meaningmoreness emerging as subject/object uniduality.
This indeterminacy in turn creates an urge to attain ever greater precision. Attention then reveals the regular occurrence of irregularity and aberration, endless tiny differences at the smallest scale and deceptively measurable motions of apparent objects at larger scales. What is perceived by an identified (collapsed) mind is described as limitless varieties of glitches, moments of flow, sublime openings, emotional contractions, lines of flight, glimpses of beauty, shivers of horror, every possible insight, surprise, shock, denial, boredom, birth and death.
This culminates at the symbolic level of soul intelligence in the dialectical discovery of the Mandelbrot set, which cannot occur until nearly the omega point, the moment of completion of the permutations of that set. This recognition of the fractal nature of manifest reality then reveals the secrets of the Unmanifest—when consciousness is saturated by the Power of the Whole.
In other words, once the fractal logic of worlds is discovered at Real One, the Soul, out of love (Real Two) for the God-Self, translates the symbolic significance of the physical-metaphysical (explicate-implicate) super-combinatoric comprising the null set into the realization of Real Three—the overwhelming and all-pervading Intelligence of the Absolute as Pure and Total Presence of the Whole in the immediate and immaculate Here and Now.
What emerges from this Realization is not new technology, as identified minds would believe, but the generation of a new M-set uttered out of the Void as the Logos—the Dao—of a new Creation.
The awakening of the soul to the Dao, which begins the final phase of the process, is accompanied by the release of its overwhelming love for God, the Source of the Whole. This leads to blissful unification of the two forms or modes of unconcealment of the Whole—Zero and Inconceivable—that completes the M-set in its temporal dimension—through the encounter of Infinity with Its Self: The Kairos Goddess, Dominatrix of her phallic slave Chronos, after four yugas of foreplay, is finally ravished and absorbed by the Eternal Aion.
Aham Aham=Aham=Silence is the final Word.
The M-set is revealed as a black hole, complete emptiness, nothingness, Shunyata. The Emptiness empties into the Fullness.
The map is neither the territory nor the treasure sought, but once the mapmaker finds himself located on the accurate map, then the hidden territory that is nowhere and everywhere, in no time and in every moment, the Homeland of Om, the unmappable treasure, is fully revealed.
When the black hole set sets, the infinitely bright Sun rises.
We are at the moment before the Dawn of the Singularity—Eternity abiding between and beyond the cyclic sets of time.
Namaste,
Shunyamurti
Youtube Description: Benoit Mandelbrot documentary from 1995. Mandelbrot discovered what is now called the M-Set in the early seventies and coined the term ‘fractal’ to describe the geometry behind it. The power and the beauty of fractals were only capable of being seen with the advent of computers, which become psychedelic windows on the infinite when using simple fractal equations.
The Mandelbrot set – someone has called it the thumb-print of God – is one of the most beautiful and remarkable discoveries in the entire history of mathematics.
With Arthur C. Clarke as narrator and interviews with a number of notable mathematicians, including Benoît Mandelbrot, this program graphically illustrates how simple formulas can lead to complicated results: it explains the set, what it means, its internal consistency, and the revolutions in thought resulting from its discovery. Asked if the real universe goes on forever, Stephen Hawking defines its limit of smallness; the Mandelbrot set, on the other hand, may go on forever.
The invention of the silicon chip in the 1970’s created a revolution in computers and communication and hence transformed our way of life. We are now seeing another revolution which is going to change our view of the universe and give us a better understanding of its’ working.
